Biography

Serhii Bukovskyi (Sergey Bukovsky) was born in Bashkiria, the autonomous republic of the former Soviet Union. His father was a film director Anatoliy Bukovsky, and mother is a movie actress Nina Antonova. Since childhood, he is living in Kyiv. 

 He graduated directing at the Film Department at the Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv State Institute of Fine Arts. After serving in the Soviet Army, and he used to work at The Ukrainian Documentary Film Studio for more than a decade.

 During his 40-years film career, Serhii made more than 30 films. Some of the them was taken to official competition and received awards at prestigious international film festivals in Leipzig, Nyon, Amsterdam, Krakow, New York…

 From 1998 to 2003, he worked as a leader instructor in documentary directing at the Karpenko-Karyi State Institute of Fine Arts. His student Igor Strembitsky got Palm D’Or in Cannes in 2005 for his short diploma documentary. 

 In 2014 Bukovskyi and his wife Victoria Bondar (script writer and story editor) established The Sergey Bukovsky Film Programm as a postgraduate program for young filmmakers.

Serhii Bukovskyi is a member of European Film Academy, National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, Ukrainian Film Academy. 

Member of the jury of international film festivals in Leipzig (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal), Győr (Hungary), Tirge-Mures (Romania), Yerevan (Armenia), Molodist (Kyiv, Ukraine), Docudays UA (Kyiv, Ukraine), Odesa International Film Festival (Odesa, Ukraine).
