When the young filmmaker Ihor finds a hidden and unpublished photo archive of his grandfather Leonid Burlaka, a famous Soviet cinematographer, he realizes that it’s a chance to get closer to the memories of his grandpa, who is rapidly succumbing to dementia. The damaged pictures reveal the struggle between remembering and forgetting.
The famous Soviet cinematographer Leonid Burlaka, who worked at the Odesa Film Studio, suddenly gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. At the same time, Ihor, his grandson and an emerging Ukrainian cinematographer, accidentally finds his grandfather’s heavily damaged photo archive from the Soviet 1960s. The young Ukrainian cinematographer Ihor meets the young Soviet cinematographer Leonid, who starts establishing his career during the “Khrushchev Thaw.” This makes Ihor realize that he actually knows close to nothing about his grandpa and his youth, so Ihor dives into all the controversy of the Soviet cinema machine. Yet time is running out: soon, Leonid will not remember Igor at all.
