How to work with sound in documentary film

01 May 2024

One of the events of the second day of the DOCU/PRO Industry Platform will be dedicated to working with sound in documentary cinema.

On 2 June at 2:00 p.m., we invite you to a creative meeting with the sound director Vasyl Yavtushenko, a co-founder of the 4Ears Sound Production studio.

Vasyl works both with fiction and with documentary film. In particular, he was awarded the Golden Dzyga award for Best Sound in the film Butterfly Vision (which premiered globally in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes in 2022). His body of work includes documentaries such as This Rain Will Never Stop (2020), directed by Alina Gorlova; Outside (2022), directed by Olha Zhurba; A Poem about Little People (2023), directed by Ivan Sautkin; and many others.

You will get a chance to hear practical advice about the process of working both on the set and during post-production. There will be specific examples to discuss and clarify how sound can shape the narrative in documentary cinema and affect the perception of the plot.

Access to the event is open to holders of Industry Accreditation. The terms of purchasing the Accreditation will soon be published on our website.
