DOCU/PRO

Conversations about the role of culture, the results and future challenges of the film industry

24 May 2024

Here is the gist of the three final events planned for this year's DOCU/PRO programme.

On June 1, at 11:00, we will open the 21st DOCUDAYS UA industry platform with a public conversation: What role does culture play when a country is on the verge of survival?

At what point of this dynamic process are we now, in the third year of the full-scale war? What strategy of communication with the outside world is effective today and can be effective tomorrow? We initiated this difficult but extremely important conversation with speakers from various fields of culture. The event will feature: Sofiya Cheliak (cultural manager, host of the Suspilne Kultura channel), Anna Gadetska (musicologist, co-founder and programme director of Open Opera Ukraine), Natalia Movshovych (head of the Cinema Department at the Ukrainian Institute), Olga Gibelinda (filmmaker), Oksana Semenyk (art historian, researcher and journalist). The event will be moderated by director and producer Yelyzaveta Smith. Entrance to the event is free for everyone.

On June 4, at 10:00, we start the day of the DOCU/PRO programme with Morning Coffee with ARTE at the 1818 rooftop space (11 Kostiantynivska St.). Fabrice Puchault, Head of Documentary at ARTE France, and Alexandre Marionneau, Head of International Co-Productions in the Society and Culture Department at ARTE France, will discuss the topic of public service broadcasting and its broader impact on culture and the film business in a conversation with Yuliya Fediv, a member of the Board of Directors at Suspilne Ukraine. Then, using the example of the Generation Ukraine project, they will consider how documentaries serve as a powerful tool for storytelling and cultural exchange. Entrance for holders of industry accreditation only.

On the same day, at 14:30, we invite you to KINO42 (11B Kostiantynivska St.) to meet Malcolm Dixelius, producer and co-founder of the Baltic to Black Sea documentary network (B2B Doc), and producer Olga Beskhmelnytska. In its 10 years of strong activity, B2B Doc has brought at least 30 documentaries to international recognition, and dozens of filmmakers and producers have gained a network of like-minded people and support. The results and next steps will be discussed at the meeting 10 Years with B2B Doc: Lessons Learned and Future Challenges. Entrance for holders of industry accreditation only.
