Born in the Everest region of Nepal, Ngima Gelu Sherpa is a street photographer turned independent filmmaker and educator based in Kathmandu. He has taken on multiple roles, including writer, director, producer, cinematographer and editor, for his films. They have been showcased and awarded at various festivals such as Oberhausen, DMZ Docs, New Orleans, Bengaluru, and Reykjavík, among many others.
Currently, Ngima Gelu Sherpa imparts his knowledge and expertise in film production as a lecturer at Kathmandu University. His academic journey includes the completion of an MA in fiction film direction, which he pursued as part of the Kino Eyes: The European Movie Masters programme from 2018 to 2020, with the support of an Erasmus+ scholarship. Furthermore, he is also an alumnus of Rotterdam Lab in 2023 and participated in Berlinale Talents 2023.
