Programme Review

Coming to Terms with the Overwhelming Experience. National Premieres of Civil Pitch 2.0 Films

28 April 2023

While the four films of the programme are being welcomed by the Canadian audience, we are waiting for their Ukrainian premiere at the 20th Docudays UA in June. The stories of Civil Pitch 2.0 allow us to comprehend and relive the most difficult events while letting the world hear and see Ukraine. The programme is presented by Oleksandra Kravchenko, its coordinator:

"The short films from Civil Pitch 2.0 are fresh documentary reflections of the reality we found ourselves in after February 24, 2022. The war in Ukraine has become total, and the world is beginning to realize that Russian aggression threatens not only our land, but the entire civilized world as we know it.

Coming to terms with this reality is painful, overwhelming, and immense. In spite of all difficulties, it is extremely important to talk about it, both with each other and with the world. I believe it is precisely through the "little stories" of civilians that we can overcome it, accept it, and tell it so that those who have no experience of war can hear us. Step by step, detail by detail. The film Under the Wing of a Night provides an up-close look at the choice between safety abroad and the opportunity to be near your loved ones. The shock of spending the first weeks of the full-scale war in the Kharkiv subway is depicted in 89 Days. The film Guests from Kharkiv tells the story of the inability either to settle down elsewhere or to return home under fire. And Our Robo Family reminds us about the inspiration to build the future and persist after another escape from the occupation."

Join a series of Instagram lives with the film directors as a part of Civil Pitch 2.0. The first conversation with Pavlo Dorohyi will be livestreamed already this Sunday, on 30 April, at 4 PM.
