Special film screenings: Module of Temporality and Docudays UA

17 February 2023

The Module of Temporality culture space, created by don't Take Fake and balbek bureau architecture studio, will open its doors in February on Kontraktova Square in Kyiv. This initiative will hold a thematic exhibition, a film programme, and a series of special events over the next three months.

Module of Temporality (MOT) is a temporary culture space that will host a series of special events and an exhibition from February to April involving 28 artists from 10 countries of the world, including Ukraine. Exhibition curator Fabrice Bousteau is an art critic, and editor-in-chief of Beaux Arts magazine (France). MOT is an attempt to record the fluidity of life and its time in art, to express both uncertainty and the desire to continue to live, create, and fight.

A series of chamber film screenings in cooperation with Docudays UA will take place in a new culture space. Together we will show and discuss three films from the festival collection: Euromaidan: Rough Cut, Euromaidan SOS, and Cry My River.

"While developing the special events programme, we wanted to continue the dialogue about temporality, which the exhibition raises. And this conversation is impossible without facts and situations recorded by documentary filmmakers," the MOT says. "That is why we asked the Docudays UA team, the major documentary film festival in the country, to not only create a film screening programme, but also to add context and even more meaning by involving directors, experts, human rights defenders, and activists."

"Thanks to the DOCU/CLUB Film Club Network, Docudays UA screens and discusses the best festival films about human rights during the year. We are pleased to become partners of the ambitious don't Take Fake project, which reveals the powerful potential of Ukrainian people at several levels: artistic, aesthetic, ethical, and socio-political. Within our cooperation, we will show several films that, we believe, can change Ukraine," says Ksenia Shymanska, director of Docudays UA Human Rights Department.

The film programme will open on 20 February, on Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day. At 19:30, we invite you to the screening of Euromaidan: Rough Cut, the documentary about the Revolution of Dignity of 2013-2014. We invite you to join the discussion after the screening. The discussion guests:
Liudmila Yankina

Liubov Halan is a human rights activist, co-founder of the Human Rights Center for service members "Principle" (ukr, «Принцип») and the volunteer initiative Frontline Care;

Andrii Prepodobnyi is a participant in the Revolution of Dignity. He openly supported Euromaidan, working as a militia inspector. Today he works in the anti-corruption field.

The discussion will be moderated by Maria Tsypyashchuk, Coordinator of UHHRU Rivne-based public reception, professor at the National University of Ostroh Academy, and the head of the Human Rights Through the Lens within DOCU/CLUB Network.

The event will take place during the offsite meeting of the film club of media education on human rights at the NGO Docudays. Admission to the film screening is by ticket. All funds will be transferred to the aid fund for culture institutions that were affected by Russian aggression.

For security reasons, in the event of an air raid siren in Kyiv, the film screening will stop, and the audience will be asked to proceed to the nearest shelter (Kontraktova Ploshcha metro station). The organisers will further notify you about the date and time of the rescheduled event.

Do not miss future film events! Follow the updates on the project's website.
