Prison health care: What kind of help do ill inmates receive?

Duration
60’
Health care in places of detention (such as detention facilities and correctional facilities) is either not provided at all, or provided very selectively and not in full. Meanwhile, an enormous number of diseases lead to physical defects at best and to inmates’ untimely deaths at worst.

How are ill people treated at penal facilities and what are the ways to reform prison health care? How do people have to fight for providing medical care to ill inmates?

The Kharkiv Human Rights Group will present their vision of the problem, provide a general overview of the state of prison health care and present a concept for reforming it.

The discussion will also involve a former convict Oleh Tsvily who will speak about how he was tortured at Temnovska Penal Colony No. 100 and about his condition when he was released from prison. Ihor Rybchynsky, also recently released from a correctional colony, will tell the story of his disease and how it was (not) treated.
