What are creative documentaries? What are the available approaches to editing these films? Filmmaker, tutor and jury member of the DOCU/WORLD competition Emma Davie will talk about her editing experience. Her latest work, the feature documentary Becoming Animal, which was made and edited in cooperation with Peter Mettler, has been nominated for awards at CPH:DOX, Documenta Madrid, and Docs Against Gravity. Emma teaches documentary filmmaking at the Edinburgh College of Art, and consults filmmaking crews in person and at international workshops.
Previously, Emma was the documentary programmer at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and participated in numerous festival juries, including IDFA and Visions du Réel. Emma also has experience of working in performative theatre. She used to run the Clanjamfrie theatrical troupe, which specialised in large-scale immersive shows with elements of cinema and performance that often took place in unusual spaces.
The moderator of the event is Oleksandr Teliuk — cinema expert, head of the film archive at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre, documentary and experimental filmmaker.
