Wintopia was created from recordings made by the filmmaker’s father, Peter Wintonick, for his own film project, which he did not finish in his lifetime. Trying to decipher her father’s interest in utopias, his daughter creates a sensitive diary film about life between dreams and reality. The film’s director Mira Burt-Wintonick and Vladan Petkovic, a film critic, programmer, jury member of the DOCU/UKRAINE and DOCU/SHORT programmes, will discuss working with archival footage, and the power and tenderness of diary film.
Mira Burt-Wintonick is an award-winning radio producer and filmmaker living in Montreal. She is the co-creator and senior editor of CBC’s Love Me, a podcast about the messiness of human connection. She sometimes makes videos that make people laugh and cry (How To Age Gracefully) and absurd comedy podcasts (WireTap, Pen Pals).
Vladan Petkovic is a journalist, film critic, festival programmer and translator. He is the correspondent for the territories of former Yugoslavia at Screen International and a senior writer at Cineuropa. He is a programmer for the ZagrebDox and Rab Film Festival (Croatia), the Skopje Film Festival (Macedonia), and FeKK in Ljubljana (Slovenia). Vladan contributes as guest programmer and advisor for numerous international film festivals around Europe, and works part-time as industry editor for IDFA's website. Petkovic is the Head of Studies of GoCritic!, a recently established training programme for aspiring film journalists and critics in collaboration with Cineuropa.
