Last year in Rivne, 16-year-old Darya Kotsyuruba and another activist were detained by the police for their protest demanding the President’s impeachment. The young activist Roman Ratushnyi, who protested against illegal development in the Protasiv Yar district, was threatened with kidnapping. Four civic activists have been murdered in Ukraine in the last two years. The youngest, Mykola Bychko, was 23 years old.
How has the situation with teenage activist safety changed in recent years? How are the authorities investigating the cases of persecution against young activists? Can teenagers freely express their positions without putting themselves in danger? What are the risks for young people who go to protests instead of school?
