Domestic violence: how to help children?

Duration
60’

In our society, physical and emotional abuse is perceived as a social norm. Child abuse is a common phenomenon. There are numerous cases of children being beaten, humiliated or insulted.

How can we protect a child in a situation of domestic violence, and how should we explain to Ukrainian parents that the use of physical violence is not normal? The discussion will be attended by representatives of the police, psychologists and representatives of state and public organisations. Together we will discuss effective mechanisms for reducing cases of domestic violence against children, as well as ways to protect and assist the child in such cases.

Speakers:

Jennifer Botham, Royal Canadian Mounted Police;

Yuriy Kitsul, special tasks chief inspector at the Juvenile Prevention Department of the National Police of Ukraine, lieutenant colonel of the police;

Aliona Kryvuliak, Director of the Department of National Hotlines and Social Aid at the NGO La Strada Ukraine;

Zoia Melnyk, Executive Director of the NGO Parent Union, co-founder of the platform Protection of children's rights.

Moderator: Liubov Velychko, journalist.
