Penelope Isles from Brighton is set to perform at one of Kyiv’s most famous locations, the Closer club, on March 23 as part of the Selector Live special during the Docudays UA film festival. This is going to be the very first performance of the band in Ukraine.
Penelope Isles is the collaboration of brother and sister Jack and Lily Wolter. They mix waves of ambient delays and fuzz guitar noise, sonic dynamics and melodic pop hooks entwined with girl-boy harmonies. Their self-produced home recordings portray an honest lo-fi approach when capturing their own music. Their live set is hypnotic, captivating and moving, smeared with glistening psych, dreamlike chimes, and potency that will transfix and satisfy.
Nostalgic, but undeniably new, Penelope Isles’ debut LP ‘Until The Tide Creeps In’ is released March 2019 on Bella Union Records. For the lovers of early Arcade Fire, Grandaddy and Mogwai.
Selector Live is a series of live concerts organised by the British Council in Ukraine together with a local partner to support The Selector – the radio show about new British music. Over the years, British Sea Power, Young Fathers, Slaves, Ghostpoet, Everything Everything, Max Cooper, Benjamin Clementine were among the guests of The Selector Live. The Selector is being broadcasted in Ukrainian every Tuesday on Radio Aristocrats.
