Daniel Abma studied film directing at the Konrad Wolf Film University Babelsberg, with a focus on documentaries. His own films are contemplative and thoughtful, and they received awards at many international festivals. In particular, his film Beyond Wriezen was shown at IDFA and at numerous other festivals and won, among others, the prestigious Grimme Award in Germany. His last work Transit Havana, about the sexual revolution in Cuba, visited more than fifty festivals. Today, he also teaches documentary film at the Konrad Wolf Film University Babelsberg, as well as holds workshops and seminars. At this year’s festival, you will have a chance to attend his lecture about the differences between documentary filmmaking for platforms such as The Guardian or The New York Times and creating a “typical festival documentary”.
Dominique Young is an executive producer in documentary programming. For many years she was Senior Commissioning Producer for Witness on Al Jazeera English, and was also International Exec Producer at Zinc Network.
Flora Gregory has over 30 years’ experience in broadcasting. She has worked both with independent companies and with television productions. For about ten years, she worked at Al Jazeera English and curated its award-winning documentary series Witness. Flora also conceived and ran Channel 4’s Unreported World.
Jean Garner has worked with documentary filmmakers for the past fifteen years. She has worked for ABC News as well as Al Jazeera's flagship program, Witness. She is currently working for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Qutaiba Barhamji is an award-winning film editor and director based in Paris. He has edited films in 12 different languages, both full length documentaries as well as fiction films. His works have been selected to travel around the globe at festivals including Venice, Berlin, IDFA, Rotterdam, Paris, Nyon and many others. He also works as an editing consultant and trainer for several organisations in Europe and the Middle East. At Docudays UA, you will have an exclusive chance to visit his masterclass in our DOCU/CLASS workshop. He also joined this year’s festival jury for DOCU/UKRAINE and DOCU/SHORT.
The Forum will be held in Kyiv on 26-29 March during Docudays UA. Over the course of a 4-day residential workshop, the selected filmmakers will learn how to pitch their project ideas to commissioners from digital platforms.
