The 16th Docudays UA starts in exactly two weeks! For you, we have prepared hit premieres, two Ukrainian film programs, VR Cinema and incredible guests and lecturers in our traditional DOCU/CLASS workshops and our powerful industry platform DOCU/PRO, as well as the exclusive RIGHTS NOW! program and the special Change It! Impact Lab for Activists and Documentary Filmmakers. The intense festival week will take place at 15 locations this year.
The Zhovten Cinema (26 Kostiantynivska str.) will traditionally host the screenings of competitive and non-competitive programs, as well as DOCU/CLASS workshops and one event from the industry platform, the UKRAINIAN DOC PREVIEW. The opening and closing films of the Festival will also be screened here.
The creative community IZONE (8 Naberezhno-Luhova str.) will become the space for discussions, masterclasses, workshops and discovering new horizons by rethinking the concept of human rights in the online world. Because this venue is going to host the events of our human rights program RIGHTS NOW! and the special impact lab for documentary filmmakers and activists. We also invite you to IZONE to watch VR films and talk to living books. IZONE this year presents an incredible lot of educational events, screenings and opportunities to meet the Festival’s international guests.
IZONE will also host a part of the DOCU/PRO program, particularly the Global Shorts Doc Forum workshop. Meanwhile, industry events, such as the B2B DOC pitching, will be held in the venues of our festival partner HOTEL RUS. In addition, in the cozy and informal atmosphere of HAPPY HOURS, you will have a chance to talk to Festival guests every evening at the BURSA GALLERY cafe (11 Kostiantynivska str.). Access to these events will be open to holders of festival or industry accreditation. In addition, the British band Penelope Isles will perform in the Closer club (31 Nyzhnioyurkivska str.) during the Festival and in partnership with us.
The Kyiv Cinema (19 Velyka Vasylkivska str.) will host the DOCU/BEST and DOCU/ART programs, as well as the special program dedicated to Iranian documentary cinema, IRAN. PRIVATE.
The Lira Cinema (40 Velyka Zhytomyrska str.) will be the cosy place to watch our special Ukrainian program NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIES, and on the Audience Days it will screen the Ukrainian films from the DOCU/BEST program.
For the first time, Docudays UA festival will have Audience Days and show films in cinemas in different Kyiv neighborhoods. On the Audience Days, March 29 and 30, films will be screened in Boomer Cinema (4 M. Lavrukhina str.) and the Kyivkinofilm network (Kyivska Rus, Fakel, Dnipro, Leipzig, Taras Shevchenko Cinema). These cinemas will also screen the two Ukrainian films from the DOCU/BEST program and films from the DOCU/YOUTH program.
This year, Docudays UA, in cooperation with Dovzhenko Center, presents a retrospective of iconic films by the famous Ukrainian documentary filmmaker and teacher Oleksandr Koval, whose creative life was closely linked to the UkrCineChronicle studio. Here, in Dovzhenko Center, you will have an opportunity to watch six of Oleksandr Koval’s films. Each screening will be followed by a conversation with special guests, creative friends and colleagues of this prominent master: Serhiy Bukovsky, Viktoria Bondar and Valentyn Vasianovych.
We also continue to experiment with the DOC/SADOC format for the younger visitors of our Festival. This year, DOC/SADOC will be located in the new space of the Library of the Future (25 Mezhyhirska str.). In the form of games, quests and educational activities, children will learn about the basics of information security in the virtual world and of media literacy.
So please welcome the 16th Docudays UA on March 22 through 30 this year. The event schedule will be published on our website after March 14 (from that day on, you will be able to book tickets online).
