Because of the aggression in eastern Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea, human rights activists and advocates have to face new challenges and threats. The majority of people who spoke out against the violations were forced to leave their home cities and look for safety in places where the government publicly speaks about human rights and responds to the actions of human rights advocates. The exhibition-installation titled ‘Suitcases of Human Rights Advocates’ presents the belongings of human rights advocates from the Donbas, Crimea, Kharkiv, as well as Azerbaijan and Belarus, who have had to leave their homes or go to prison. Every suitcase will tell the story of its owner’s life.
