Is there a conflict between the film club format as a non-commercial activity for leisure and informal education and the need to protect copyright? Can an amateur student film lovers’ club really obtain a licence to screen films and follow all the rules? Can a municipal film theatre organise a non-commercial film club? Finally, can the historical format of a film club as a free intellectual and educational centre survive in conditions of total commercialisation and the difficult demands of film production?
