Lecture 'Non-linear Documentary Storutelling'

Duration
120’

It happens at times that making a film is just not enough to tell your story properly or reach the right audience. In this case, there is literally an endless list of emerging genres of immersive non-linear storytelling that are out there to help you. Or you can even come up with your own. Through a case study of the best examples from a decade of internet storytelling, this lecture will explore the ever-evolving genre of web documentary, the approach to workflow, storytelling tools and financing & distribution opportunities for your project.

Olga Kravets, an award-winning documentary photographer and filmmaker, works primarily on long-term projects about conflict and human rights across the former USSR, the Middle East, and the Balkans. She is a co-author of Grozny: Nine Cities (web documentary and book) exploring the ten-year aftermath of Chechnya’s war, and a director of the IDFA-premiered It’s Getting Dark, the story of five families of political prisoners across Russia through time. She has directed and produced a number of web documentaries for media and institutional clients.
