Documentary School: Lectures and Meetings of DOCU/CLASS Online

30 January 2018

It’s less than two months until the jubilee 15th Docudays UA. And while we are preparing a March week full of films and events, you can watch every Friday at BIG IDEA the best recordings of the Docudays UA 2017 film workshop!

Last year’s DOCU/CLASS included public dialogues with famous directors, passionate conversations about film editing, and stories about activist projects which aimed to change the world for the better with documentary films.

Paweł Łoziński and Serhiy Bukovsky

The first video will be available online already on Friday, February 2. It will be the meeting between Serhiy Bukovsky and Paweł Łoziński, whose works were demonstrated in the MASTERS program. Both films — Leading Role by Bukovsky and You Have No Idea How Much I Love You by Łoziński — speak about the relationships between children and their mothers, and do it in very different manners. The conversation between the two documentary directors is, undoubtedly, the “cherry on the cake” of the DOCU/CLASS workshop.

Every Friday, you will have a chance to watch online lectures at the BIG IDEA platform. Later, you will be able to find them in the video library on our website. All the lectures in English have been translated into Ukrainian.

Thessa Mooij

In particular, they include the passionate speech about the capacity of documentaries to transform the society by the founder of the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival (Prague, Czech Republic) Igor Blazevic and a lecture by the American publicist Thessa Mooij about examples of successful film PR campaigns, festival application process, and working with festivals.

Uldis Cekulis

In addition, the Latvian producer Uldis Cekulis will share his subjective experience of navigating various pitching forums and international workshops, and his secrets about finding allies in the process of filmmaking.

And the team of French documentaries from La Fabrique Documentaire will tell you about their experience of participating in the full cycle of documentary activism, from creating critical documentary works to educational screenings in provinces and creating programs for famous film festivals.

And, finally, a conversation with Monika Willi, who has closely collaborated with Michael Haneke, Barbara Albert and Michael Glawogger. It is difficult to imagine what the famous films Workingman’s Death and Whores’ Glory by Glawogger would be like without her. Ukrainian director Kateryna Gornostai talks with her.
