Gitta Gsell was born in 1953 in Zurich, Switzerland. Since 1977 she has been a scriptwriter and director of theatre and performances. 1977-79 attended F+F, Schule für Experimentelle Gestaltung, in Zurich. 1979-89 resident in New York. 1980-82 attended School of Visual Arts, New York, BFA. Since 1981 has been a screenplay writer and director of films and videos. 1982-84 MFA in Combined Media from Hunter College, New York. Since 1990 has lived in Zurich.
