Miriam Ryndová. Production tour of Europe & presentation by the Institute of Documentary Film: Opportunities from development to distribution

Duration
90’

An in-depth analysis of TV slots, CE preferences, funds & funding systems. Examples from various producers, fund and TV representatives.

Founded in 2001, the Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, the Czech Republic, focused on providing developmental support and international promotion for creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe.

IDF’s programs and activities offer Central and East European film directors and producers inspiration, knowledge, skills, and professional networks that will enable their documentary films to thrive on the international scene, while supporting documentary filmmakers and producers at all stages of filmmaking: development, funding, production, post-production, distribution and ongoing promotion. Through individual consultations, professional workshops, networking and industry events open to the wider professional community and the general public, as well as an extensive online database and portal, IDF functions as a bridge between documentary filmmakers and the international documentary community.

During the past 15 years, over 250 documentary films have been developed, produced, and successfully completed thanks to our activities, while more than 3200 films have received international distribution support.

The Production Tour of Europe offers an overview of financial sources for creative documentary films in Europe, while adding strategies for the selection of suitable commissioning editors and appropriate television formats. This comprehensive lecture, presented by Miriam Ryndová from the Institute of Documentary Film, also provides an analysis of the most important film funds and broadcasters, and sums up where to seek opportunities for East European production — pre-sales, sales and co-production contracts.

Miriam Ryndová graduated in Aesthetics, Slovak Language, Literature and Artes Liberales Film Studies in 2002. She worked as a film journalist for Vlna magazine and the Nitra International Theatre Festival (Slovakia), organised a film conference for the Soros Centre of Contemporary Arts, Bratislava, and worked for Designblok and FAMU’s Documentary Film Department in Prague. Miriam has also curated the section for music videos and animated films in Datatransfer – a festival of new visual styles in Prague. She has been working for the Institute of Documentary Film since 2005 as a curator of East Silver, where she is responsible for the selection of Eastern and Central European documentaries and the Silver Eye Awards. Miriam also selects projects and guests, and is responsible for the programme at East Doc Platform, the biggest film industry event focused on the upcoming Eastern and Central European documentaries. She prepares the Doc Tank program for projects which explore the boundaries of the documentary genre and transmedia.
