Gang, dir. Yauhen Shapchyts, Pavel Bandzich, Belarus, 2015, 56’
Sixteen years ago, Belarus witnessed a series of troubling events that shocked and negatively affected the public and the political opposition. In a short period of time, the deputy speaker of the parliament died; and the minister of interior affairs, the deputy prime minister and an influential businessman disappeared. Within the next year, a cameraman from a Russian TV channel also disappears. At first these events seemed to be unrelated. The official investigation of the disappearances was ineffective. 15 years after these events, a Belarusian human rights advocate collected all the details of the case to reproduce the disturbing picture that unites all these political disappearances.
Discussion with the film’s producer and author, Belarusian human rights advocate Raisa Mikhaylovska. Moderator Tania Hatsura-Yavorska, NGO Zvyano (Belarus)
