Organized by the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Ecology–Law–Person, the SEVEN Center for Legal and Political Research NGO, Green World, Green Front NGO
This project aims to draw attention to the deterioration of green areas in Ukrainian cities and villages. In the last decade, more than 200,000 hectares of forests have disappeared in Ukraine. In Kyiv, 1630 hectares of land of the Zhukiv Ostriv reserve, the southern slopes of the Lysa Hora regional landscape park, and some plots in the Syretsky Hay reserve have been taken over for construction developments. The authors of the Thinking Maidan project propose holding annual large-scale investigations, expert and community discussions, and an advocacy campaign, and finally to raise awareness and initiate discussion about the pressing problems. Within a year, the experts of Thinking Maidan will develop a legal mechanism to stop the destruction of green zones.
