Melanie de Voсht. IDFA industry initiatives: Possibilities for Ukrainian filmmakers

Duration
75’

The presentation of one of the biggest international documentary film festivals in the world, the IDFA, and its industrial components that open numerous opportunities for filmmakers from all over the world.

IDFA is unique for its international film program, the variety of genres, its political committment and the many world premieres it features every year. Aside from the festival, IDFA consists of three industry components: the IDFA FORUM for international co-financing, Docs for Sale for finished documentaries and the IDFA Bertha Fund.

The IDFA Bertha Fund is an internationally renowned institution with a broad network supporting over 500 documentaries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Recent documentaries that were made with the fund‘s support include: Return to Homs, 5 Broken Cameras, Ukrainian Sheriffs, Sonita, Tea Time and The Devil’s Lair.

Mélanie de Vocht has been working for the IDFA Bertha Fund since 2006. The International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam initiated this fund to generate more attention for documentaries from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. As the fund’s project manager, Mélanie is part of the pre-selection committee, leads the selection rounds, follows up on all the selected projects and chooses the IDFA Bertha Fund’s selection at IDFA each year.
