On September 6-7, 2014, the forum titled “Public Control: Oxygen of Democracy” initiated by OZON Public Monitoring Group will be held at hotel “Rus” in Kyiv. Its organizers believe that the event will be of most importance under the current circumstances, when we need to assure the results achieved by the Revolution of Dignity just weeks before the parliamentary elections, and to prepare the ground for country’s development after the war.
For two days the participants, along with the experts, will be elaborating the efforts to unite people from various regions – people eager to change Ukraine and jointly develop a plan of actions aimed at controlling local authorities, police, and judges. Apart from experts, the event will also gather journalists, musicians, opinion leaders who will share their success stories and plan future efforts.
Docudays UA will also join the forum and present 'New Heroes' – the film by Roman Bondarchuk that premiered at the festival in 2012.
The film is actually a collection of three documentary portraits of ordinary Ukrainians. Each of them has his or her separate story, although all of them have something in common – they fight against injustice the nowadays Ukraine. Ordinary citizens are usually isolated from the information about legal opportunities available to them and able to help them in their efforts to improve their lives – start a business, facilitate community unification to protect its property and rights, and defend its interests. These three stories show that defeating injustice is possible if enough efforts is made and the pressure of circumstances is overcome; they show how people from southern and eastern up-country don’t allow the system to bring them to bay.
The films were produced under the grant provided by the Vodrodzhennya International Fund as a part of the initiative “Strengthening legal capacity of low-income citizens.”
