Film director and producer. Graduated from the Film Directing department of the Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television. From 1981 to 1988 worked at Kyivnaukfilm production studio. In 1992 he emigrated to the US, where he worked at the American-Russian channel WMNB and lectured in film history at the New School University in New York. He founded the independent film production company AZfilms. Makes documentary and independent films. His debut work Dream Interpretation (1990) won a Grand Prix at the 2nd All-Soviet festival of non-feature films in Voronezh and was screened at numerous international festivals. He has made a number of feature films: Vasia (2002), Kostantin and Mouse (2006), Orange Winter (2007), and My Father Evgeni (2010). The latter won the Laurel Branch national prize as the best international film in Moscow. Currently he is working on a feature dedicated to Vahrych Bakhchanian, Vahrych and the Black Square
