Press Announcement

12 March 2013

This year’s events defending human rights and the film screenings at Docudays UA are united under one special theme – There is a Choice. The particular focus is on freedom of speech and peaceful assembly, access to information and the right to free expression of views. Why doesn’t totalitarianism disappear after a revolution? Who are our leaders and where are they leading us? We will be searching for answers to these questions together with our festival guests – acclaimed cinematographers, human rights advocates, journalists and activists from all over the world: Canada, the USA, China, Great Britain, Iceland, Scotland, Australia, Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia, Syria, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Finland, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Congo, Italy, Croatia, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Participants at the press conference: Svitlana Smal, the head of the festival’s Organizing Committee; Gennady Kofman, the festival’s Program Director and a member of the Selection Committee; Roman Bondarchuk, filmmaker, a member of the Selection Committee; Iegor Soboliev, activist, Editor at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism Svidomo (Aware), and moderator of the program There is a Choice; Maryna Hovorukhina, PR manager of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union.
