A barren rock island off the coast of Peru. No soil, no water, but hundreds of thousands of birds. For a period of ten years, only two guards may live on Guanape Sur. In the eleventh year though, hundreds of workers arrive for the harvest of the birds' excrement.
Janos Richter is a Berlin-based director and editor. He graduated in sociology from FU Berlin and documentary direction from ZeLIG, Italy. His thesis film Guanape Sur premiered at IDFA and won an IDA Documentary Award as well as several awards at international festivals, including Silverdocs, Monterrey IFF and San Sebastian IFF. It was a finalist for the 2012 Cinema Eye Honors.
